Delhi Assembly Election Result 2020: Party, constituency-wise leading and trailing candidates full list; AAP wins 37 seats, leads in 25, BJP wins 3, ahead on 5

The three-cornered fight between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress will come to a conclusion following the counting of votes cast in the Delhi Assembly election by the end of Tuesday (11 February).

As of 6.06 pm, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won 37 seats and is leading in 25 seats, while the BJP has won three seats and is ahead on five, according to the Election Commission website. Meanwhile, the Congress is yet to open its account.

Satyender Jain won the Shakur Basti seat, Somnath Bharti won from Malviya Nagar and Abdul Rehman has won the Seelampur constituency. Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj won the Greater Kailash seat by defeating his nearest candidate Kaushal Kumar Mishra of BJP by a margin of 36,920 votes. From Sultanpur Majra (SC), Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat has won the seat whereas AAP leader Raghav Chadha has won from Rajinder Nagar constituency. From Patel Nagar (SC), Raaj Kumar Anand has won the seat. Ajay Dutt, AAP’s candidate from Ambedkar Nagar (SC) also won the election by 28,327 votes. Preeti Tomar of AAP won the Tri Nagar seat by a margin of over 10,000 votes.

BJP has won three seats and is leading in four. BJP’s Vishwas Nagar candidate Om Prakash Sharma defeated Deepak Singla of the Aam Aadmi Party by a margin of 16,457 votes while Ajay Mahawar won Ghonda by 28,370 seats. Jitender Mahajan won the Rohtas Nagar seat.

Arvind Kejriwal, whose AAP is tipped by exit polls to win a third term, had come to power in 2015 with a massive mandate. The exit polls had also predicted a better performance for the BJP, which powered its campaign on the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests at Shaheen Bagh.

Kejriwal is leading from the New Delhi constituency with a margin of 21,697 votes. The BJP and the Congress have both nominated first-timers from this constituency this year. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is ahead of BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi from Patparganj constituency by a margin of 3,207 votes.

Alka Lamba, who made a “Ghar Wapsi” into the Congress after five years, is trailing massively from Chandni Chowk constituency and risks forfeiting her deposit if her vote percentage doesn’t pick up in the subsequent rounds. She has secured 3,881 votes (5.03 percent) of the votes counted so far while the leading AAP candidate Parlad Singh Sawhney is much ahead with 50,891 votes. AAP’s vote share in this seat is at 65.92 percent so far.

The AAP has broadened its lead against BJP, both in terms of numbers and vote share. The AAP so far has secured 53.7 percent votes, while BJP is lagging behind at 38.4 percent.

This year, the National Capital saw a voter turnout of 62.59 percent as compared to the 67.12 percent polling recorded in 2015. The highest number of votes were polled in Ballimaran (71.6 percent) and lowest in Delhi Cantonment (45.4 percent).
