Elon Musk has spent more than $130 million on Trump and the GOP this year

Musk has now spent more than $119 million on Trump, making him the ex-president’s second largest financial backer.

  • Elon Musk’s publicly disclosed spending for Trump and Republicans has exceeded $130 million.
  • Nearly $119 million of that sum has gone toward Musk’s pro-Trump “America PAC.”
  • He also gave $10 million to a Mitch McConnell-aligned super PAC that helps elect Senate Republicans.

Elon Musk has now spent more than $130 million this year to elect Donald Trump and other Republican candidates, according to documents filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.

The vast majority of that sum, just shy of $119 million, has gone toward “America PAC,” the billionaire businessman’s super PAC that has primarily spent money on canvassing and digital advertising to support Trump. The PAC has also spent a smaller sum to help elected Republicans running in 18 competitive House races around the country.

After pouring nearly $75 million into America PAC between July and September, Musk contributed another $43.6 million to the super PAC in the first two weeks of October. He has also contributed $924,600, the legal maximum, directly to Trump’s campaign.

Musk also contributed $10 million to Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC affiliated with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that helps to elect Senate Republicans, and $825,000 to Hispanic Leadership Alliance, a super PAC affiliated with Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas. That’s on top of hundreds of thousands of dollars donated in August to the National Republican Congressional Committee, the campaign arm for House Republicans.

Altogether, Musk’s publicly reported spending exceeds $130 million, though it’s possible he’s spent more than that on the election.

The billionaire businessman has reportedly contributed to a “dark money” nonprofit group that gave $3 million to a super PAC that has run ads portraying Vice President Kamala Harris as simultaneously supportive and hostile toward Israel. Musk may have also given more money to political action committees since October 16, but that would not appear in public filings until late November.

Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The richest man in the world, Musk has gone all-in for Trump in a way that few business titans have before for a presidential candidate, including holding town hall events in Pennsylvania and appearing with the former president at a recent rally in the state.

He has also organized a $1 million giveaway to registered voters who sign a petition for super PAC, raising legal questions and reportedly prompting a warning from the Department of Justice.
